My name is Sasha Sleiman and I am an aspiring international policy professional focusing on understanding conflicts and the roles women play in conflict. I am finishing my Masters Degree at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in International Policy Studies, concentrating on Conflict Resolution.
Prior to entering my master’s program, I was very involved in Washington State higher education advocacy and policy research. First, I served as the Western Washington University’s Associated Student’s Legislative Liaison in 2006-07 where I was privileged to work with student lobbyists from the other public, 4-year institutions to progress student needs and interests in regards to their higher education experience at the State government level. After my time as Legislative Liaison, Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire appointed me to the Higher Education Coordinating Board to represent the student perspective on the board. My reappointment to the board in 2008 was the first time a student was consecutively appointed to the Board making my full term from June 2007 to June 2009. The WA Higher Education Coordinating Board has since changed by the WA State Legislature to the Washington Student Achievement Council.
